Mr. Live Aid Blasts the EU and Praises Bush

Mr. Live Aid Blasts the EU and Praises Bush

Bob Geldof, former front man for the Boomtown Rats and founder of the Live Aid program in the 1980s, came out swinging against the EU.

"You'll think I'm off my trolley when I say this, but the Bush administration is the most radical - in a positive sense - in its approach to Africa since Kennedy," Geldof told the Guardian.

Former president Bill Clinton had not helped Africa much, despite his high-profile visits and apparent empathy with the downtrodden, the organiser of Live Aid, claimed. "Clinton was a good guy, but he did fuck all."

"The EU have been pathetic and appalling, and I thought we had dealt with that 20 years ago when the electorate of our countries said never again," he said. Warning that the "horror of the 80s" could return, he added: "The last time I spoke to the EU's aid people, they didn't even know where their own ships were. The food is there, get it here."

"Their grotesque inability to respond in a full, adequate manner is responsible for the food shortages here," he said. Some 14 million people, or one in five of the population, are facing starvation in the country and the aid bill is estimated at more than £500 million.

On the other hand, he praises Pres. Bush, something you don't often hear from liberal activists.

Lord Alli, the aid activist who is accompanying Geldof on the trip organised by the UN children's aid agency Unicef, echoed his praise of the Bush administration.

"Clinton talked the talk and did diddly squat, whereas Bush doesn't talk, but does deliver," Lord Alli said.

Psychiatrist Advocate For Mentally Ill Drifters Is Assaulted By Mentally Ill Drifter

I saw drifter because I'm in a good mood. Normally I would say 'hobo.' I certainly would not use the 'homeless' term, like fuzzy-wuzzy social workers do until one of them kidnaps a girl ... and then they use the term 'drifter.'

Anyway, the American Psychiatric Association is having its annual convention in San Francisco, and Dr. Geetha Jayaram, an associate professor of psychiatry at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and the scientific program committee chairwoman of the psychiatric association, was assaulted by a vagrant with a history of mental problems.

Mental health advocates and psychiatrists cautioned against stereotyping the mentally ill, saying that although they are more likely to be homeless, most aren't violent. But advocates also warned that budget cuts may only exacerbate what violence does occur.

Soccer Fans In EU Member Nation Set Fire To Dog After Loss

I'm all for nosey Europeans telling everyone else how to act but when it comes to setting dogs on fire, I draw the line.

Sure, install a lot of nuclear power plants and insist that somehow makes Kyoto mandatory for the US. Sure, tell me the illegal weapons you sold to Iraq don't exist and that you have more culture than places like Mexico. But don't tell me in order to be cool I have to hang dogs.

Kyoto Oops: 'Greenhouse' Gases Continue To Rise

Looks like the EU isn't really practicing what it preaches, since 10 of the 15 EU nations failed to meet lower Kyoto standards. You remember Kyoto, right? Europe soundly criticized the US because we failed to sign it when we realized our economy would tank by 25% in order to achieve a 1 degree Celcius change in 'global warming' by 2050. Meanwhile, allowing Mexico, India, etc. to pollute to their heart's content.

France, at least has stabilized its Kyoto-sanctioned emissions. How? NUCLEAR POWER. Wasn't that the left-wing bad boy a few years ago? In Britain they are switiching to gas. So they aren't actually cutting any real pollution, just changing the nature of the pollution from the things mentioned in the Kyoto protocol.

Biggest offender? My favorite 'European country that says screw European group think' -- Spain. Up almost a third since 1990, the base year for Kyoto.
