Psychiatrist Advocate For Mentally Ill Drifters Is Assaulted By Mentally Ill DrifterI saw drifter because I'm in a good mood. Normally I would say 'hobo.' I certainly would not use the 'homeless' term, like fuzzy-wuzzy social workers do until one of them kidnaps a girl ... and then they use the term 'drifter.' Anyway, the American Psychiatric Association is having its annual convention in San Francisco, and Dr. Geetha Jayaram, an associate professor of psychiatry at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and the scientific program committee chairwoman of the psychiatric association, was assaulted by a vagrant with a history of mental problems. Mental health advocates and psychiatrists cautioned against stereotyping the mentally ill, saying that although they are more likely to be homeless, most aren't violent. But advocates also warned that budget cuts may only exacerbate what violence does occur. Article Here |
