Poland Gets Another Lesson In The Downside of EU Membership

Poland is overwhelmingly Catholic and staunchly anti-abortion, so why do the Dutch feel like they need to send abortion advocates in there? Because clearly the Poles are not capable of deciding these things for themselves ... they simply need to be educated by EU members that are more enlightened.

Women on Waves uses the ship to offer the abortion pill to pregnant women in countries where abortion is illegal. To circumvent strict Polish anti-abortion laws, the group plans to take women aboard and sail 20 kilometres (12 miles) out into international waters to administer the pills.

Abortion in Poland is only allowed in cases of rape or where the health of the mother or embryo is in danger.

Tolerance

So the little woman and I are driving down the road and "Hammer and a Nail" is up on the CD.

"Is this the Dixie Chicks?" she asks.

"Blixie Chicks?? Of course not. I have better taste than that."

She deftly ignores the implied insult.

"It's the Indigo Girls," I tell her. "Homosexuals, you know. Shows my tolerance."

"Yes," she replies, "I have noticed you're very tolerant of homosexuals. As long as they're lesbians."

"And one of them is Janine Lindemulder," I add. "We need to be clear on that."

CA City Councilwoman Criticizes Education System, Shows Little Education

City Councilwoman Lauren Hammond doesn't like the performance of Sacramento city schools Superintendent Jim Sweeney.

"I don't doubt that Jim Sweeney loves children and had dedicated his life's career to improving education," she said. "The school district has done some wonderful things ... but (on state tests) half the students are still below the 50th percentile. That's a problem."

Well, yes, if you don't understand math, it's a problem. If half of anyone was not below 50% it would mean that math simply does not exist.

Aside from her being really stupid, her criticism seems a little unfounded in the broader sense.

"I have no idea why she'd say that or where that came from," Sweeney said. "In any case, let's look at the record. When I started we had 18 low- performing schools and now we have one." Indeed, many view him as a champion of underperforming kids. "My greatest successes and greatest joy have been going out to the low-performing schools to see the changes going on there."
